I love world building, and I wanted to design a city-state with all its surroundings, characters, objects and stories. That's how Ashgaar was born. I chose the name of the city - Ashgaar - as the name of the project, since I wanted to focus on environment design.
For the visual look of Ashgaar I mainly used references from places in Middle East, and, to a certain extent, Greco-Roman architecture. Since I wanted to place the city in a remote location in the past, I also studied ancient city urbanism, astronomical objects of the Ottoman Empire, prominent women from the ancient world as well as Orientalist master painters.
After studying and sketching, I built the city in 3D, taking advantage of a 3D matte painting course in which I was enrolled. I could then produce a video with an aerial view of the city-state.
